Summer fun continues....
The Fulkerson weekend was extended a few days as we were lucky enough to have Lissa and the kiddos stay with us after Ryan left on Sunday. While I consider Brecken and me lucky, I don't know that I would say the same for poor Lissa, Grant & Kallie. When you factor in the intense HEAT this week and the fact that our 30 year old air conditioner has trouble on a breezy 80 degree day, we were SWELTERING, to say the least. We did our best to stay cool.... Lots of time downstairs (10 degrees cooler), lots of water, lots of improvised meals that didn't involve the use of our oven, and play dates at friends' homes (we checked first to make sure their air was working!) :) Ha!
We spent Monday morning cooling off with Brecken's friend Anna. Though Kallie and Anna's mom's know each other, this was the first time the girls had met! It was lots of fun and us moms often looked at each other with that sympathetic "sorry my child is a toddler" look :) We laughed saying that we at least all *got it* as we all eat, breathe, and sleep with toddler behavior on our brains. The kids had a lot fun together and it was fun to hang out as moms as well :)
Anna picked pizza for our lunch and it was a great choice! Everyone enjoyed it :)
Here is a picture from one of our improvised meals: Chinese take-out eaten picnic style in our basement. The kids seemed to have fun!
Little did we know, the faulty air conditioner was actually a blessing and something we took for granted. That all came to be realized around 9:30pm on Monday night as Lissa, Eric, and I were sitting in the basement talking..... AND EVERYTHING WENT BLACK! We lost power?!?!?! Apparently, there were some 10,000 customers across the state that suffered a power outage and it wasn't estimated to be restored for approximately 24 hours. We shuffled through the darkness and somehow packed up our three little mini humans for a midnight adventure to relatives in a nearby town. We slumber partied there for the night and were DELIGHTED as we walked into a house that felt like an iceberg. I've never been so happy to be cold in my life!!! :)
Here are some pictures of the boys..... Brecken and Grant seem to be holding quite the conversation!
We miss the Fulkersons and are excited for our next time together.... We are hopeful that time won't include power outages or extreme temperatures :)

The rest of the week has been pretty low-key for us. Brecken spent an hour Tuesday afternoon organizing the pantry... Which is terribly unorganized because of his many earlier "organizational attempts." Regardless, I don't mind going on a search and rescue every time I need the brown sugar because his digging in the pantry allows me to do dishes, clean the kitchen, and so much more! He loves to sort, move, label, ask questions, re-sort...
After this particular pantry shuffle, I noticed that Brecken was no longer in the hallway and was no longer saying "What this, Mommy?" every few seconds. I rounded the corner to see him on the ground with some of his finds. I asked what he was doing and he said, "My get cupcake bowls. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5." I asked what he was going to do with the cupcake bowls (muffin liners) and he pointed to each one stating who it was for: "Mommy, Breckee, Daddy, Gucker, Kee-Kee."
I asked what he was going to put into the bowls and he pointed to the Craisins bag and said, "My put cherries in cupcake bowls." He then took it a step further by proudly stating "My share cherries" with a big smile on his face :) When he busted out the sharing card, I decided there was no way I was taking the bag of Craisins or the "cupcake bowls" and he could do whatever he wanted!
He happily filled the cupcake bowls, talking constantly while doing so....
Here is the end result:
I asked him, "Brecken, which one is Mommy's cupcake bowl?" and he points to the below....

I don't know that I can count the 1:60 ratio as sharing?? I convinced him to put a few extra in Mommy's bowl as we discussed the meaning behind "sharing" but you'll notice there is still a difference :)
