Apple Crisp.... Step One

Since going to the apple orchard, I have been saying that we were going to bake something with our apples. Due to sickness and poor health in the Walker family it has been put off. Brecken's friend Anna did some apple baking and posted pictures to her blog, and he has been asking me ever since to PLEASE BAKE! This morning, I woke up saying I didn't care who was sick or in the hospital, we were doing something with our apples! We did a lot of running around this morning with our trip to the zoo and our special lunch at Rain Forest Cafe, so Brecken didn't go down for a nap until about 2pm.... Which meant he was still sound asleep at 5:30 tonight despite us opening the door and turning on lights to wake him. He finally woke up and we started our baking.... There were some super fun times and some awfully turbulent times (for both he and I!). Brecken may or may not be ready for baking.... And mommy may or may not have the patience built up for such an event. And an EVENT it was!

Coring/ Slicing the apples.... Brecken was much more interested in pulling the curly-Q apple peeling off and putting them in the bowl...

... and sampling of course. There was LOTS of sampling.

We got through all of the apples, when Brecken couldn't resist. He had to take one giant bite before we put it into the corer/ slicer.

All was going great until we had cored/ sliced/ peeled all of the apples that we needed. Transitioning to the next phase was difficult as Brecken apparently thought we would just keep doing this for the rest of our lives. When we pulled him away from the apple action, his little heart was broken and he starting WAILING!
