Dear Diary...
Dear Diary,
I have been feeling some frustration the past few weeks at some of the repeated questions we seem to be getting about Brecken.... "He STILL doesn't have teeth???"... "He STILL isn't rolling over???"... "He STILL isn't crawling???".... Brecken is 9 months old and no he hasn't gone mobile yet. He IS however working on his second tooth and just tonight he scooted several feet with the help of his arms, some hilarious gyrations, and backwards motions :)
Because of my background in early childhood, I am aware that there are developmental milestones and if they aren't reached at a specific time there could be red flags that something may not be developing in the time frame that is typical for most kiddos. More importantly, because of my experience with kids, I know that kids don't grow in text books and that there are no two children alike. Therefore, I am NOT concerned that he is developmentally delayed.... I joke that what he currently lacks in mobility he makes up for in his appetite and if we're going to go into "comparisons" with kids, while anyone can say "my kid crawled before yours" I can come back with "but my kid could eat your kid!" Hahahahaha!
I know that Brecken will do things as he is ready to do them. Short of being able to write the "my kid crawled early" status in the baby book, does it really matter how quickly he masters the milestones?? What I can say about the bug-a-boo is that he is one of the most content little guys I've ever met. He can sit on a blanket for hours, playing independently with his toys.... He smiles with his whole body and if he flashes his baby blues your way, you WILL melt.... :)
Brecken turned 9 months today and whether he crawls tomorrow or in two months, we'll love him just the same!
Here is Brecken trying on his train hat...

For some reason, Brecken keeps trying to get INTO his barn.... As you can see, it's not working :)
Here is a picture of Brecken and Daddy watching the gold medal hockey game of the Olympics last weekend.... After watching the game, Eric & I realized we might have some parenting conflicts if and when Brecken gets involved in sports.... See below :)
April's reaction to the US Men's hockey team placing second: "It's ridiculous that they are all pouting and sulking as they are getting SILVER medals placed over their heads at the Olympics! They should be proud that they played their best, that it was a great game for fans, and that they got second place at the OLYMPICS."
Eric's reaction to the US Men's hockey team placing second: "Second place is the first loser. They didn't win. They should be embarrassed."
