Thursday Update

A few things have happened since Brecken got moved out of his crib on Tuesday.  It was unfortunately short lived :(..... There was apparently a problem with the air conditioning in the room.  They had maintenance up to fix it, but they proactively put all the babies in cribs BACK into their isolettes to keep them from getting too cold :(  This was a bummer as Brecken didn't even have a chance to prove that he could do it on his own.

He did a LOT of sleeping on Wednesday. Like, he didn't even wake up for his temperature checks which he normally hates!!  He got a bottle at his 9am feeding and did pretty well, but the rest of the day relied only on his tube feedings as he couldn't wake up to eat even a little bit on his own.  This was sad for Mommy as I like to see his eyes as often as possible :(  When I asked the nurse about his lethargic state, she said it's sometimes a sign that his billirubin count is back up (jaundice).  She looked at his lab reports and sure enough, his billirubin has been slowly increasing each day since coming out from the lamps on Sunday.  Bummer.  Instead of putting him right back under the lamps though, they are challenging him to see if he can correct it on his own..... They took another count this morning, but we are waiting to see for the lab report to come back and then will go from there.  He might get moved back under the lamps (or they also have little blankets that have the lights as well).  In the meantime, they are weening him back off of the isolette in hopes of getting him into a crib again to try that.  Some will depend on his billirubin count this morning so a lot counts on this number coming back at the right level!

Brecken continues to gain weight and is now over the 5 pound mark!!  He is now 5 pounds, 1.5 ounces :)

Eric joined me for the 6pm last night and got to try feeding him a bottle again but it wasn't successful as he seems to be just as hard to wake up as his mommy :)  We are hoping he is a sturdy sleeper once he gets home as well, but I didn't know how frustrating it could be to try and wake someone up when they wouldn't budge.  Eric, of course, has had lots of experience with this already :)

Here are a few pictures of him from last night!
