Afternoon Photos

Brecken got a nose tube put in this afternoon around 3:30 when we were upstairs visiting. It took the nurses a few tries and he was NOT A FAN. The tube goes down to his stomach and that is how he gets his feedings. The other end of the tub is tucked into the flap of his hat right now, and they give him shots of milk. It's amazing how a little drop is all that his stomach can fit right now. He is also getting his nutrients through his IV.

We especially like the last picture and thought Uncle Aaron would like it too. It looks like Brecken is giving the peace sign with his right hand and moved it this way when Daddy told him he would see him later.

The chest x-ray came back this afternoon somewhat as they guessed it would. He has some fluid in his lungs and he still has premature lungs, which explains his labored breathing. With that said, both are completely normal for a baby born 6 weeks early and are things that he just needs to work through and will improve with time. No pneumonia, no infection, nothing out of the ordinary. The nurses have also commented that he is doing very good at self-soothing and self-correcting when he does have breathing problems. So this is a very good sign and hopefully it will only be a matter of time until he has the game of life all figured out :). (Note: Before anyone emails us asking "What about the steroid shots April got at 24 weeks to rapidly develop his lungs????", all we can say is that it would obviously be a lot worse had I not had the steroid shots. We also have to remember that he was born 6 weeks early and is living out in the world and breathing completely on his own.... 6 weeks early! On his own! So while he may have premature lungs, he is not hooked up to a ventilator and not on any kind of oxygen. Both of these things are great!

We both got to hold him again this afternoon... What a cutie. Lots of sleeping and minimal eye opening. He does flutter his eye lids when we're snapping photos and makes pouty faces... To which Eric always says "Oh look, he's making a face like Mommy!"

Love, April & Eric
